THE FIRST WAITERS RACE EVENT
The very first “Waiters Race Mongolia 2016” was held on June 6th for the annual “No car day” at the Chinggis Square, Ulaanbaatar. The event was out of many participating in the “Ulaanbaatar marathon - 2016”. Nomads Chain “Bake and Cake” prepared a special “No car day” celebratory cake in honor of the annual holiday.

Over 50 participants competed in the “Waiters race Mongolia 2016”, organized by Nomads Chain of Restaurants. Among the participants were waiters and waitresses from other restaurants as well as everyone who was interested. The first prize went to “Modern Nomads 1” restaurant waiter B. Erdenebayar, coming in at 2nd place was “Modern Nomads 2” restaurant waitress T. Baigalmaa and lastly, 3rd place going to “Namaste” Indian restaurant Sales Manager E. Gantugs.

B. Erdenebayar: I look forward to participating every year

Congratulations for winning first place in the first “Waiters race Mongolia 2016”!
-Thank you. I’m participating from “Modern Nomads 1” restaurant. I didn’t really prepare much for this contest, I got a call saying that they were signing up willing participants and I put my name in it. I’m lucky to have signed up. I’m really happy that I won this year’s first race.

How did you like the race? Was it hard for you?
-In my opinion, it wasn’t a tough race. I mostly waiter for the VIP rooms, so I’m constantly going up and down stairs, which I think definitely prepared me for this race. Since this event was the first, it was a lot of fun. If they keep this up every year, I will definitely participate again.

How long have you been working in “Modern Nomads”? What are the upsides to working in the service sector?
-I’ve been working at “Modern Nomads” restaurant for about 8 months now. It’s a very rewarding job and since I believed in myself and wanted to work in a restaurant in the first place, I find it very pleasurable. It’s especially great to work here because of the clean, comfortable environment, as well as great food.

Thank you for the interview. Good luck!
-Thank you. I would lastly like to personally give thanks, as well as on behalf of all the other participants, to Nomads Chain of restaurants and “Coca Cola” company for this amazing event.

E. Gantugs: I wish for more young people to participate

Congratulations on participating in the “Waiters race 2016”. Tell us how you feel?
-Thank you. I came in 3rd place in the race that’s being organized for the very first time in Mongolia. I feel great. There were many young talented waiters who were quick on their feet and I’m so happy that such an event was organized for us to participate in.

Did you find the barriers in the race difficult to pass?
-It was actually alright. Personally, I didn’t think the barriers were at all hard for me.

From what restaurant are you participating from?
-I am participating from “Namaste” restaurant as a sales manager. Even though I’m not a waiter, I found the race very interesting.

This race was special because it’s being held in Mongolia for the first time. Tell us your thoughts?
-Since this race was the very first of its kind, I think there were a lot of things to improve but I also know that it’ll only get better with time. I really hope this event will get better and bigger and that there will be more participants next time.

The first “Waiters race” was held in the beginning of the 20th century in France and now it takes place in over 50 countries and is known by many people all over the world. Mongolia is officially the 54th country that has and will carry on this tradition to organize this event. Despite the fact of being the first event of its kind in Mongolia and although there were many things to lookout for - this year’s race was certainly successful. From the music and audience to the eager participants, it was all in all a friendly match of skillful waiters and waitresses.

The Waiters race Mongolia 2016’s main sponsor was Nomads Chain of Restaurants, all products were sponsored by “MCS Coca Cola” company.
